Location

Caban Clyd is situated in the picturesque Dyfi Valley, a mile by car from the village of Dinas Mawddwy in the Snowdonia National Park. Just a couple of miles from the foot of Aran Fawddwy - the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia. The Pod is situated about 5 miles from Bwlch y Groes, the highest pass in Wales, which leads to Vyrnwy and Bala Lakes with their wide range of watersports.

The pretty market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau are both about 20 minutes away by car. Machynlleth is known as the Ancient Capital of Wales, it offers an abundance of quirky shops, restaurants, pubs, cafés and takeaways, supermarket and garage. It is home to the oldest street market in Britain that is held every Wednesday, and also MOMA Wales, a showcase of modern Welsh art. Dolgellau will also provide you with all the amenities you need. This includes excellent restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs, as well as banks and supermarkets, a local butcher, grocer, bakeries and chemists. Amongst the highly recommended restaurants are Meirionnydd and the Royal Ship, as well as the Steakhouse and Tafarn y Gader tapas bar.

The coast offers a wide choice of lovely beaches, such as Fairbourne (18 miles), Barmouth (20 miles), Aberdyfi (23 miles), Borth (27 miles) and the university town of Aberystwyth (32 miles). The nearest shop and garage are 1.5 miles away in the village of Mallwyd. Here you’ll also find a historic tavern called The Brigand’s Inn. The Dinas Mawddwy area is infamous for its tales of Gwylliaid Cochion Mawddwy (Red Bandits of Mawddwy) - they were a band of red-haired robbers who used to terrorise the area back in the 16th century!

The valley offers peace and tranquility and is an ideal base for walkers of all capabilities with numerous walks and footpaths leading straight from your luxury Pod. In the village of Dinas Mawddwy is the Meirion Mill craft shop and cafe, Camlan Garden Centre and cafe, and the Crafty Cafe in the centre of the village, where you can take part in craft sessions while enjoying a cuppa and cake. There are also three pubs - the most famous being the traditional Llew Coch (Red Lion) in the centre of the village and within easy walking distance of your Pod.

Every September, Dinas Mawddwy hosts the Red Bull Hardline mountain biking competition. This event draws in thousands of people every year, and Caban Clyd would be an ideal location for your stay - you can even see the competition track from your Pod. Wales Rally GB is held annually in November in the local Dyfi Forest, and for those of you that love to watch the aeroplanes along the Mach Loop, your comfortable glamping pod would be the ideal location to view these spectacular planes flying towards you up the Dyfi valley.

Other popular attractions in the area include the Centre for Alternative Technology (15 miles); King Arthur’s Labyrinth and Corris Craft Centre (13 miles); RSPB reserves at Ynyshir (20 miles) and Lake Vyrnwy (21 miles); Dyfi Valley Osprey Project (18 miles); Coed y Brenin mountain biking centre (17 miles); and for the more adventurous there is the Zip World, Bounce Below, and Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog (32 miles).
