Location

Located on the northern edge of the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park, Abereithrin holiday cottage, adjoins the owner’s house in the quiet rural setting of Pentrebach, a  small hamlet including a country pub called The Shoemakers Arms where you can enjoy a home cooked meal, (book ahead).

This is a beautiful part of Wales with traditional market towns, stunning landscape, waterfalls, canal paths, castles and plenty of family attractions. The scenery here is both beautiful and diverse, ranging from rolling countryside and valleys, to the wild beauty of the waterfalls and caves. Wales is well known for its castles and perhaps one of the most dramatic is Carreg Cennen near Llandeilo. Brecon, Llandovery, Crickhowell, Tretower, Hay and Bronllys can also boast impressive castles.

The nearest shops and petrol stations are in Sennybridge, about 3 miles away. The traditional market towns of Brecon and Llandovery are both about 12 miles away. To the north is the upland moor of the Epynt military ranges. Within reach of Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark, a landscape sculpted by ice, then transformed by man, Porth yr Ogof cave system, Wales's largest cave entrance is within reach.To the south is Dan yr Ogof Caves, one of Wales’ premier family attractions and was also voted Britain’s finest natural wonder. The scenic Heart of Wales train line stops at Llandovery.

Cultural highlights include the Brecon Jazz Festival in August, the Hay Festival in late May/early June and the Green Man Festival held near Crickhowell in August. The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show in July and the Winter Fair in December both held in Builth Wells are highlights of the year for the agricultural community.

Water sports

Water sport enthusiasts are well catered for with the river Usk providing white water canoeing. 3 miles

Epynt Way - The 90 kilometre Epynt Way is a circular walk that can be joined from the doorstep. 0 miles.

Geotrails - series of walks ranging from easy strolls to the more demanding

Craig-y-nos Country Park is located 14 miles away - a 40-acre Victorian garden with shady woodlands, meadows, ponds, lazy lawns and rushing rivers

Various spectacular walks can be found in the Beacons National Park, including the peaks of Pen y Fan, Cornddu and Criban.

Fishing

Permits and day tickets are available for the superb wild brown trout, salmon and sea trout (sewin) fishing on the river Usk. 3 miles

Golf

Cradoc Golf Club - An 18 hole course and floodlit driving range. There are spectacular views over the Brecon Beacons and Pen y Fan. 8 miles

Cycling

Routes are abundant - you can ride along the River Wye from the source, through the Brecon Beacons National Park. Local trails and country routes. 3.2 miles
