Pembroke Castle

This is really a magnificent structure, set on the banks of the river estuary. It was the birthplace of Henry Tudor father of Henry v111. The castle has a long and dramatic history in 1093 Arnulf de Montgomery built a small inner baily on the site. The huge stone castle took shape in the late 12th and 13th centuries. In the civil war the castle was attacked by both sides as the castle changed sides on a number of occasions. At the end of the war Cromwell himself led the attackers.
