Castles on the Mid Wales Borders

If you’re after castles and culture, Mid Wales has both in spades. Dolforwyn Castle in Abermule was the last castle to be built by Llewelwyn, the Last Prince of Wales, between 1273 and 1277.

Powis Castle, which started life as a medieval fortress, is a must, especially for its beautiful gardens and collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries.

Don’t miss – a trip to the stunning Lake Vyrnwy, where you can enjoy a leisurely walk and good lunch or an active day of cycling and watersports. Golf and fishing are popular in this part of Wales, too, with plenty of golf courses and a coarse fishing lake.
